Toru Iwatani’s masterpiece not only helped establish the maze game genre, but was one of the first games in history to make an enormous cutural impact. Not only was it extremely financially successful for Namco, making around $20 Billion (adjusted for inflation) in arcades, but spawned a ton of sequels, popularized character-led video games, made it into multiple art musuems, became an animated tv show, inspired a gold certified song (“Pac-Man Fever”), and became a household name to even non-gamers 45 years later.
