Crystalis (NES – 1990)

Kazuto Kohno’s cult classic Crystalis, developed by SNK, was an action RPG in the style of the Legend of Zelda, but with a focus on much more traditional RPG elements in an untraditional techno-fantasy world. While Crystalis has never gotten a sequel or even sniffed a possible remake, it is absolutely worth checking out as one of the best games ever released for the NES.
